Author Stephen Puleo

Stephen Puleo is an author, historian, public speaker and communications professional. His eighth book, The Great Abolitionist: Charles Sumner and the Fight for a More Perfect Union was published in April 2024. All of his books have been regional best sellers and have received national recognition. Stephen has his master’s degree in History from U-MASS Boston and has taught at Suffolk University and U-MASS Boston. His other books include Voyage of Mercy, The Boston Italians, Dark Tide and other award winning books. We are thrilled to have Stephen speak at the Ames Chapel.

Gray Sargent Trio

Gray Sargent is a musician’s musician having recorded and toured with some of the most recognized names in the music industry. He played with Illinois Jacquet on and off between 1975 and 1990, and began working with Dave McKenna in the early 1980s, with whom he would work well into the 1990s. He has performed and/or recorded with Benny Carter, Arnett Cobb, Scott Hamilton, Herb Pomeroy, Chuck Riggs, Buddy Tate, Frank Wess, Bob Wilber, Phil Woods, and Tony Bennett, among others. Sargent was a member of the Tony Bennett Quartet for 24 years, from 1997 to 2021, including Bennett’s final performances with Lady Gaga.
The bassist is Marshall Wood – Marshall was with Tony Bennett for 11 years, and played with many Jazz greats before that including Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Woods, Anita O’Day, Clark Terry, Scott Hamilton, Dave McKenna, Monty Alexander, and many more. The drummer is Les Harris – Les has also played with many greats over the years including Clark Terry, Milt Hinton. Scott Hamilton, Snooky Young, Dick Johnson and many others.
